LMPD officers surprise family with gifts for Christmas

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Inside a home on Powell Avenue, in the Jacobs neighborhood on Christmas Eve, the stockings were hung ready for Christmas. However, under a small Christmas tree, there were no gifts in sight.

Outside, an undercover operation was going on as several LMPD officers pulled up to the home. They were armed with toys, food, and games for a father and three sons.

"Is that all mine?" 12-year-old Anthony Holt asked as one of the officers entered with an armful of presents.

"Yes, those are specifically for you," Officer Nathan Blanford replied.

Officer Nathan Blanford says it all started after they were at the home earlier in the week on a run, while the father was working.

"We were inside. I could see what little they had," Officer Blanford said.

Twelve-year-old Anthony Holt also got his attention.

"The little boy in there had this look of sadness and there were no presents under the tree. I had already made the decision he was getting something for Christmas, so I asked him what he wanted for Christmas and he said Legos," said Officer Blanford.

So the officer decided he also wanted to give back to this family, with help from the community and fellow officers.

Kenneth Holt says the family has been behind on the rent, and he's been working as much as he can to make money.

"It's hard by myself, but I'm doing it the best way I can," said Holt.

His sons were prepared for a Christmas without gifts, but now it's sure to be a Christmas that they won't soon forget.

"It's Christmas time. It's the right thing to do," said Officer Blanford.

"Things are looking up now. They say they didn't believe in Santa Claus, but this is the Christmas spirit. I really appreciate that," said Kenneth Holt.
