Four injured as SUV drives into New Albany convenience store

NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WDRB) -- An SUV plowed through a southern Indiana convenience store Friday hitting three people, including two children.

It happened around 1 p.m. in New Albany at the Charlestown Road Save-A-Step, just off I-265.

Police say something caused the driver to lose control of the SUV, slamming into the store.

The driver came to a stop well within the business.

A driver, a customer and two young children were all taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

"It's extraordinary that no one was seriously injured in this situation we're very fortunate of that," New Albany Police Chief Todd Bailey said. "Obviously, in my tenure as a police officer, I have not seen one go through the building and hopefully everybody recovers quickly."

A crash reconstruction team is now trying to determine what caused the accident.
