UPS, FedEx price changes could point some smaller companies to U.S. Postal Service

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Pricing changes by UPS and FedEx could force many small companies to pay up to 50 percent more for shipping.

Reuters says starting Monday, the companies will set charges for U.S. ground packages under three cubic feet by what's being called their "dimensional weight."

UPS says the new pricing method will encourage customers to reduce their package sizes, but industry experts say some smaller companies may end up switching to the U.S. Postal Service, which still charges by weight.
