LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Jeffersonville manufacturing plant invests millions of dollars to expand. It's also bringing more jobs to the community.

The expansion at Spencer Machine and Tools has been in the works for eight years, so the owner was thrilled to cut the ribbon Tuesday morning.

Spencer Machine and Tools builds custom filters used in food processing. The owner says he never expected to expand, but sales have doubled in the past five years.

The company currently employs 23 people. The expansion will allow them to hire additional manufacturers.

The $1.5-million project adds 24,000 square feet. It will give them more room to buy large equipment.

"As the manufacturing grows in this area they have to have good backup because a lot of times you have to send repair work to Cincy or Indy with our heavy equipment we can repair right here for them," said company president, Glenn Spencer.
