LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say a "domestic situation" turned deadly Wednesday morning near the corner of Newburg Road and Shepherdsville Road.
Police say officers arrived at the 5100 block of Rangoon Way, near the intersection of Buechel Bank Road and Shepherdsville Road, around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. According to LMPD, a black male with gunshot wounds was taken to University Hospital where he died from his injuries. The woman was taken to Norton Hospital with minor injuries.
LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell says the woman and the victim were in a relationship. He says the woman has been interviewed and released.
Neighbors say the couple was in their 20s and moved to the neighborhood about 6-8 months ago. They say there has been trouble at the couple's home before.
"We've had to call the police on them for hearing gunshots in the middle of the day and two or three in the middle of the night," said Dawnyele White. "Just activity that was strange."
2014 has been a record-setting year for deadly domestic violence in Louisville. In early December, LMPD calculated the number of domestic violence-related homicides has tripled since 2013.
Mitchell says LMPD does not anticipate an arrest in this case, but it's turning over the case to the Commonwealth Attorney's Office for review and recommendation.
