LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's a new year, and Louisville's ban on plastic bags for yard waste goes into effect today.

Residents will be required to use reusable containers, paper bags, or compostable bags for yard waste.

The Waste Management District Board of Directors voted in May to enact the ban.

Anyone who uses plastic bags for yard waste could be fined or have to play a cleanup fee.
