LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kelly Harrod, a candidate for the office of Clark County Clerk and a retired police officer, died early Thursday morning.

Harrod's attorney, Larry Wilder, said Harrod had suffered two heart attacks in recent weeks.

Harrod, a Republican, appeared to have won the election for Clark County Clerk on election night. However, a recount flipped the election to Democrat Susan Popp.

Harrod planned to appeal the recount to the Indiana Supreme Court.

His attorney says that process will continue tomorrow.

Kelly Harrod was 63 years old.
