LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say a woman was killed overnight in a car accident. It happened at 3:40 a.m. on Alanadale Drive, near Donerail Way, just west of Dixie Highway.

Police say the woman was driving westbound on Alanadale Drive "at a high rate of speed" when her vehicle left the roadway, struck several trees and flipped several times before hitting a home and coming to rest beside a driveway.

"We just hear a real loud big boom," Cody Long, who lives near where the accident happened, said. "We thought it was a gun at first."

Several neighbors on Alanadale Drive came outside when they heard the noise. Long says he started knocking on doors to let people know what happened. Long says he then discovered the driver had been thrown from the car.

"It's a scary thing to see for yourself," he told WDRB News.

Police say the woman, who's believed to be in her 30's, was likely ejected when the car overturned. She was taken to University Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

An elderly couple was inside the home when the car slammed into the side. They are okay and repairs are underway to fix their home.

Police are still trying to determine the cause of the accident. Investigators are looking into whether alcohol and speed played a part in the crash.
