LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The coroner's office has identified a man who died after what police are calling a "domestic situation" that turned deadly Wednesday morning near the corner of Newburg Road and Shepherdsville Road.

That man has been identified as 25-year-old Michael Ellington, who lived at the Rangoon Way home where the shooting took place.

Police say officers arrived at the 5100 block of Rangoon Way, near the intersection of Buechel Bank Road and Shepherdsville Road, around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. According to LMPD, a black male with gunshot wounds was taken to University Hospital where he died from his injuries.

A woman was taken to Norton Hospital with minor injuries.

LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell says the woman and the victim were in a relationship. He says the woman has been interviewed and released.

Deputy Coroner Jack Arnold told WDRB News Thursday that Ellington was pronounced dead in the University Hospital emergency room at 7:33 a.m. Wednesday morning. The official cause of death is a gunshot wound in the torso.
