Clarksville, Ind. Colgate property could be refurbished into loft apartments

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- From a prison, to a landmark toothpaste plant -- and now lofts?

Officials with the Colgate property in Clarksville, Indiana, say the old plant could soon be refurbished into nearly 100 loft apartments, an international-themed lifestyle center with pedestrian-friendly shops and technology businesses.

The plan is still in the early stages and could take several years to complete, if approved.

The site opened as Indiana's second prison in 1847, but it sat largely vacant since Colgate closed in 2007.
