LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say the driver of a pickup truck was killed late Sunday after crashing into a van stalled in the southbound lanes of Interstate 65 between Grade Lane and Fern Valley Road.

According to LMPD spokeswoman Alicia Smiley, it happened around 9:30 Sunday night. Smiley says the van was out of gas and its owner left it on the interstate to go get assistance. Smiley says the pickup rear-ended the van.

The driver of the pick-up truck was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released.

Three lanes of I-65 South were shut down for approximately two hours while officials completed an investigation.

Officials were unable to say whether the van had its emergency flashers on. The driver of the van returned to the scene after the crash and was cooperating with investigators.

Smiley says there were no other injuries and no charges are anticipated.
