LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An 'isolated incident' is what U of L Police are calling a burglary and assault inside a dorm Wednesday morning. A U of L student is now behind bars.

"We had a call for service over at Bettie Johnson Hall where we had a student that had been assaulted and when officers got there, we found an individual behaving oddly," U of L Police Maj. David James said. "It turns out he was the person who assaulted the student that lives at Bettie Johnson Hall."

James said Jarrod Rippy was visiting another student in Bettie Johnson Hall, where many student-athletes live.

Police say Rippy was believed to be high on drugs. "We were told that it was possibly LSD," James said.

According to police, Rippy was going down the hallway trying to open doors and found one unlocked and went inside.

That's when the female student woke up after she heard a crash in the common room of her shared dorm.

Police say she confronted Rippy and that's when he punched her in the face. Police say he then smashed furniture, a TV and damaged the fire alarm system. He was arrested in the lobby of the building.

"We talk to our students all the time about making sure their doors are locked to the dorm rooms which is important, but for those that are concerned, this is an isolated incident that has occurred," James said.

"She's from the Soccer Team, we're on the Swim team both of us. It's like a family, like an athlete, so I feel really sorry about that," U of L student Carlos Claverie said.

Swim team member Hannah Magnuson added, "I know who she is and that's really scary and unfortunate and I hope she's okay."

The University will decide the suspect's future at the school. He's expected to face a judge Thursday morning.

Rippy is charged with burglary, criminal mischief and assault.
