Friday to mark first-ever Law Enforcement Appreciation Day across U.S.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Tomorrow -- and every day -- thank a police officer: that's the message from Mayor Greg Fischer.

Friday is the first ever Law Enforcement Appreciation Day across the nation.

Don Grignon, the father of murdered LMPD officer Peter Grignon, says recent anti-police protests in New York are upsetting to him. He's part of COPS -- or Concerns of Police Survivors -- which pushed for tomorrow's day of recognition.

"I hope this is the first of 365 continuous days because the police deserve our appreciation everyday," Grignon said.

Fischer says of 18 large cities, Louisville was named fourth safest in a recent study.
