LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Bloomberg Business News is reporting that Louisville resident and former University of Louisville basketball player Junior Bridgeman is part of an ownership group that will try to buy the NBA's Atlanta Hawks.

A source with director knowledge of the situation told Bloomberg that Bridgeman and former NBA star Grant Hill are leading a group that will bid on the franchise. The story says they have hired New York-based advisory firm Galatioto Sports Partners to explore the purchase.

David Aldridge, who covers the NBA for the TNT Network, also reported via Twitter that Bridgeman and Hill were leading a group in pursuit of the Hawks.

The Hawks today released a statement from owners confirming a plan to sell the franchise, as well as operating rights to Philips Arena.

Bruce Levinson, who leads the group that owns the Hawks, made headlines late last year when emails surfaced in which Levinson was made what the team determined to be improperly stereotyped assumptions of fans based on race.

Bridgeman is the second-largest franchise owner in the Wendy's hamburger chain. Hill was part of a group that unsuccessfully tried to buy the Los Angeles Lakers.
