Kentucky's Teacher of the Year gets classroom surprise

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky's Teacher of the Year got a surprise in the classroom Thursday.

Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and Superintendent Donna Hargens deliver flowers and a proclamation to a third grade teacher at Field Elementary.

Sarah Reed learned she was receiving the honor last year, but was thrilled about surprise on Thursday.

Reed says she's passionate about her job, even after 18 years of teaching.

"I was a preschool teacher before. I was an elementary teacher, and I just think about all teachers that I had to make learning so passionate and exciting, and I really wanted to replicate that," Reed said.

Reed says many nights she is still at school planning until 9 or 9:30.
