LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man was arrested Thursday after allegations that he abandoned his 2-year-old son at a Jefferson County Walmart.

Police say it happened on Dec. 20.

According to an arrest warrant, 30-year-old Dewayne Freeman tried to take merchandise from the store without paying. His 2-year-old son was in his cart at the time, according to police.

When store security confronted him and tried to bring him back into the store, Freeman allegedly shoved the cart -- and his 2-year-old son -- at the employees and ran away.

Police say his actions placed his son in circumstances that endangered his life.

A police report was filed and the boy was released into the custody of his mother.

Freeman was arrested Jan. 9 and charged with child abandonment.
