LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville Water Company says there has been a main break on Story Avenue near Frankfort Avenue.

Crews are on the scene evaluating the break and will release more information when they have investigated.

They say it is a 20-inch main that has burst.

There appears to be flooding into nearby homes.

Water Company spokesperson Kelley Dearing-Smith says crews will be on scene most of the night Friday night.

She says there were nine main breaks Friday and were still working on three of then Friday night.

"This cold snap has produced a spike in activity with over 15 breaks the past three days, all of these on smaller pipes, six to eight inches in diameter," Dearing-Smith said via email. "Louisville Water typically works two breaks on any given day."

She says freezing temperatures complicate repairs with the threat of icing, but crews will continue working during the night.
