Owner of Wild and Woolly Video announces plans to close store

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The owner of Wild and Woolly Video -- an independent movie store located on Bardstown Road -- has announced in an open letter that the store is shutting down.

In the letter, Todd Brashear cites, "the current state of the video industry, and the corresponding financial outlook for Wild and Woolly, as well as my desire to pursue a different career," as his reasoning for closing the store on March 23, which Brashear says is its 18th anniversary.

"In some ways, this was an easy decision to make, as our business has been declining for several years, and while still profitable, it is no longer sustainable in a format that makes sense for the store or for me," Brashear wrote.

As for his future plans, Brashear wrote that a recent shoulder injury has led him to an interest in Pilates.

"So once the store closes, I'm planning to spend at least a year studying to become a certified Pilates teacher, and look forward to helping other people who've been injured or just want to lead healthier lives," he wrote.

He says the store will begin selling off its collection of movies beginning Jan. 26. He adds that the store will continue renting movies through March 15, but will not be signing up new rental customers. Brashear says all gift cards will be honored through March 23.
