LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A University of Louisville football player is suspended from the team and facing charges of assaulting a police officer.

Police arrested redshirt sophomore Terrance Ross early Sunday morning on South Third Street when they were called to a report of a fight near campus.

According to arrest reports, Ross hit an officer in the face during his arrest.

He is charged with disorderly conduct, possession of marijuana and assaulting a police officer.

A U of L football spokesperson says team officials are aware of the situation and are gathering more information.

Ross did not play in the majority of the team's games this season.

He returned two kickoffs for 28 yards in the Cards' Belk Bowl loss to Georgia.

Ross is considered one of the top returning defensive backs on Louisville's roster ahead of the 2015 season.

He posted a $1,000 bond and is expected in court on Wednesday.
