Firefighters hindered by debris at West Kentucky Street fire

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Fire destroys a vacant home on West Kentucky Street.

It started about 2 a..m Wednesday. Firefighters say the house was packed with debris, which prevented them from getting into the home quickly.
Fire crews say when they pulled plywood off the windows, stuff was packed inside to window height. Every doorway was full as well.

Crews were also challenged by the cold weather. They put down salt to prevent firefighters from slipping as the water would freeze.

Crews say it took 25 firefighters 35 minutes to put out the flames. They say most of the damage was in the back of the house, and there's a lot of damage to the structure of the house.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No one was injured in the blaze.
