Grayson County Sheriff: missing teens spotted in Florida

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two Kentucky teenagers who are on the run from law enforcement are now believed to be in Florida. 13-year-old Cheyenne Phillips and 18-year-old Dalton Hayes have now visited five state while on the run.

“Alabama, Texas, we even got a sighting in Washington state which we ruled out,' said Grayson County sheriff Norman Chaffins.

Those are just some of the tips that he's gotten over the past week. He says he's receiving five or six calls a day about the two teens and possible sightings.

“Questions have been asked how they're getting money,” explained Sheriff Chaffins, “It looks like they've been panhandling, using stolen checks, forged names on checks.”

The teens are suspected of committing a number of crimes from Kentucky to North Carolina to South Carolina and Georgia. Some of those crimes include burglary, check forgery, shoplifting and auto theft.

“Dalton is hard headed, we know that,” said Sheriff Chaffins, “He's had a history with law enforcement before.”

The teens have been on the run since Jan. 4, and may now be traveling in a stolen 2001 silver Toyota Tundra with a Georgia certified firefighter license plate number of CF116I. Law enforcement believes there are two hand guns in the truck as well.

“You've got a 13-year-old and an 18-year -old supposed to be in love but if he really cares for her he would take her somewhere safe,” added Chaffins.
