LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - The 18th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Junior Brunch was held Saturday morning at Newburg Middle School.

Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin and the Men of Peace Presbyterian Church hosted the event.

Awards were presented to the students who won the "What Dr. King Means To Me" essay contest.

The goal is to spread Dr. King's message while teaching students about it.

"I think the kids see it, and it's important for kids to see that you know you can accomplish anything if you're peaceful and you do it the right way," Shanklin said.

The Men of Peace also use this event as a fundraiser to give about 50 kids in the community a free week at summer camp.
