LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A mother was indicted Tuesday for the murder of her own 11-month-old child, resulting from a car crash that took place several months ago.
On Tuesday, a Jefferson County grand jury indicted 29-year-old Janessa E. McClure for several counts in connection with the crash, including murder, first degree assault, first degree wanton endangerment, third degree illegal possession of a controlled substance (Alprazolam) and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicants.
That crash happened around 10 p.m. on April 2, 2014, near the intersection of St. Andrews Church Road and Palatka Road, police say.
According to police, a woman driving a gold Mazda with two children inside crossed the center line and hit a blue Honda.
Kason Weber, an 11-month-old boy, died from his injuries, according to court documents. Police say he was restrained in a car seat at the time of the crash.
At the time, the female driver of the Honda was taken to University Hospital in critical condition. The driver of the Mazda was taken to University Hospital with a serious leg injury. A 5-year-old boy was taken to Kosair Hospital in critical condition.
An indictment clears the way for a case to proceed to trial.
