LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Police say Fontaine Jeffery, 58, was hit and killed by a vehicle at the intersection of Second and Jefferson Streets around 8:30 p.m. Friday. Jeffery was transported to University Hospital hospital where she was pronounced dead at 9:16 p.m. Her cause of death was blunt force trauma.

She was an employee of the Marriott Hotel in downtown Louisville. Jeffery was leaving the hotel and was in the crosswalk at Second and Jefferson when she fell. Authorities say she was then hit by two vehicles.

The hotel released a statement Saturday morning: "It is with deep sadness that the Louisville Marriott Downtown confirms the passing of one of our valued, long-time associates in a pedestrian accident last night at the intersection of Second and Jefferson Streets. This associate was a true friend to all who will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time."

On Saturday Jeffery's family spoke with WDRB about her life.
"She just opened her arms to everybody," said family friend Darla Boyd "Everybody knew her, loved her."

Family says Jeffery was likely crossing Jefferson Street on Friday night to get to the TARC bus stop across the street. LMPD says they have spoken to both drivers of the vehicles that hit her. No word on if any charges will be filed.

"It hurts, it hurts," said family friend Monica Kinslow, "My heart goes out to her daughters and her grand kids cause it's going to be hard. It's going to be hard."

West Jefferson Street was closed between Second and Third Streets while officials investigated. The area was re-opened around 3 a.m. Saturday morning.
