Forecastle commits to Louisville for five more years

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Forecastle Festival is in it for the long-haul, signing on with the city of Louisville for another five years.

Mayor Greg Fischer made the announcement at Metro Hall Monday morning.

The three-day music festival has agreed to stage the event at Louisville's Waterfront Park until 2019.

The homegrown festival was founded in 2002 by J.K. McKnight in Louisville's Tyler Park, and is now produced by AC Entertainment Inc. The Festival has been hosted in Waterfront Park since 2010.

"Louisville's Waterfront Park is truly a one-of-a-kind venue, with beauty and amenities that play so well into the experience we create each July,” said McKnight, director of partnership development, AC Entertainment. "Forecastle celebrates the best that Louisville and Kentucky has to offer, and we're committed to long-term growth here, and a continued economic and cultural impact on the city. We're so proud to call Waterfront Park our home."

Since its founding, the festival has attracted mainstream acts like Outkast, The Black Keys, and Jack White. More than 60,000 people attended the three-day festival last year; about 60 percent of attendees were from out of town.

The mayor says the festival has had an increasing impact on our local economy, and is a great way to showcase the city.

"The energy and activism of Forecastle is a perfect fit for our award-winning and world-class Waterfront Park, both keep getting better year after year," Fischer said. "The result is a festival and venue that have increasing impact on our local economy and quality of place and showcase Louisville as the kind of progressive city that highly engaged and motivated young professionals want to live and work in."

Forecastle 2015 will take place July 17 through July 19. The festival lineup will be announced Jan. 27.

Weekend passes for this year go on sale Jan. 30
