BOZICH | Kentucky #1, Louisville #10, Indiana #22 in AP college basketball poll

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Louisville held its ground, Indiana gained one spot and you don't have to ask about Kentucky. The Wildcats are on top.

That's the word from the new Associated Press college basketball Top 25, which was released Monday afternoon.

Kentucky (19-0) continued its full-season stay at Number One, earning 64 of 65 first-place votes, a gain of one from last week. The other went to Virginia, which plays Duke Saturday and plays host to Louisville Feb. 7.

Zach Osterman of the Indianapolis Star shifted his vote back to Kentucky from Virginia. John Feinstein of National Public Radio in Washington D.C., cast the only first-place vote for the Cavaliers.

Kentucky visits Missouri Thursday night before returning home to play Alabama Saturday.

Louisville played only once between polls, but the Cards handled Pittsburgh Sunday. It did not help Rick Pitino's team climb in the poll.

That road victory enabled the Cards to overtake Iowa State, but Kansas jumped over Louisville into ninth. The Cards visit Boston College Wednesday, then host North Carolina Saturday.

Indiana made its first appearance in the poll last week. After splitting games against Maryland (win) and Ohio State (loss), the Hoosiers gained one spot from 23rd to 22nd.

Indiana plays at Purdue Wednesday before returning to Assembly Hall to host Rutgers.
