BOZICH | Decision on Grantham's NFL options expected soon

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – The University of Louisville football program hopes to know the plans of defensive coordinator Todd Grantham by Tuesday, a source close to the situation said.

Grantham traveled to Oakland Sunday to talk to the Raiders about the same position with the NFL squad. Multiple media outlets have reported that Grantham, 48, interviewed with the Raiders today.

“I think Todd really wants to be a head coach in the NFL one day,” the source said. “He's had success in the league and is reportedly the number one candidate right now.”

Grantham, 48, signed a five-year contract valued at $975,000 per season when he left the University of Georgia to join Bobby Petrino at Louisville a year ago. His defense finished the season ranked sixth in total defense and 10th in rushing defense as the Cardinals won nine of 13 games last season.

Oakland finished 3-13 last season, tied for the third-worst record in the league. Jack Del Rio, a coach with a defensive background, was named the Raiders' new head coach after the season.

Grantham has an NFL background. He coached 11 seasons in the league, from 1999 through 2009, when he left the Dallas Cowboys for Georgia.

Garrick McGee, Louisville's offensive coordinator, was approached by Oklahoma earlier this month but decided to remain with the Cardinals.
