LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Officers from LMPD's First Division sat down with residents in west Louisville Wednesday for free coffee and conversation.

Dozens of residents took part in the Coffee with a Cop event at the McDonald's at 2720 West Broadway. It's part of a community outreach program designed to help citizens get to know officers outside of a crime scene.

The First Division is one of the busier divisions of LMPD, covering downtown and parts of west Louisville.

LMPD Maj. Andrea Brown says it's a way for citizens to talk about issues they're facing, learn about neighborhood watch and talk to police in a relaxed atmosphere.

"Sometimes we're called to a home or some location, and most of the time it's not a good thing," Brown said. "So this is an opportunity for us to meet in an informal setting and hear some of the citizens' issues and share crime prevention information and just let them know that we're here for them."

Brown says there will be more events like Coffee with a Cop in the future.
