Louisville group creating training program to promote high-skilled manufacturing jobs

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE,Ky. (WDRB) - Closing the manufacturing skills gap in Louisville is the goal of a group called KY FAME of Greater Louisville.

The group is creating an apprentice-style education and training program.

It will provide students with classroom and real work experience.

Kentucky manufacturing companies and Jefferson Community and Technical College have joined together to create the program.

"We have 70,000 jobs in the Louisville area that are in the advanced manufacturing sector, so this is a tremendously large cluster, not just for us, but for our region as well," said Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer.

Nationally, about 600,000 manufacturing jobs go unfilled due to a lack of skilled workers.
