LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Louisville City Football Club is now officially slated to start play on March 28, with a home game against St. Louis FC at Louisville Slugger Field. At long last, the minor league soccer team has an official start date – and all the rest of the dates.

“We are really pleased with our inaugural regular season schedule,” said General Manager Amanda Duffy. “We look forward to hosting some of USL PRO's historically successful teams in the Rochester Rhinos, Richmond Kickers and Charleston Battery but will also see newcomers from MLS owned and operated clubs in Toronto FC II, FC Montreal and New York Red Bulls come to Louisville Slugger Field."

After months of waiting for the MLS schedule and new franchise announcements – among other things – the USL PRO schedule has been finalized. The league had to wait for the MLS schedule to finalize playing dates in part due to the possibility of conflicts with venues shared by MLS franchises and their USL PRO affiliates.

"Having the majority of our home games on Saturday evening will allow our fans to enjoy the complete game day experience that will be unique to any other sporting experience in this city," Duffy said.

The club has said all home games are tentatively scheduled for 7 or 7:30 p.m. start times, but the season opener's start time may be moved based on the NCAA Men's Basketball Midwest Regional set for the same day in Cleveland.

But now that fans can officially start planning their summer around the schedule, the team hopes more fans will jump on board with season ticket purchases.

“There's still a lot of people who we hope will show their support once they can make plans,” Louisville City Vice President of Ticket Sales Mark Baxter said last week.

With four matches against in-conference opponent St Louis FC, the Missouri side seems like a natural rivalry for Louisville City. In fact, the Louisville Coopers and the St. Louligans (STL FC's supporters' group) have already been exchanging barbs on twitter.

Many of the home openers this season were scheduled between in-conference rivals and it appears USL PRO endorses this as a rivalry game.

The St. Louligans and the Coopers have dubbed the matchup 'The King's Cup' -- previously 'The Louis Derby' -- and a representative of the St. Louligans says they have already garnered support for a group of fans to travel together to Louisville for games.

"We are delighted to finally see the schedule, so we can make plans for the year," The Coopers said in a statement. "We are looking forward to the four games with Saint Louis, as there is already a friendly rivalry with the St. Louligans. We are looking forward to bringing the noise for all 14 home games, and making a couple of trips down the river too"

The club says all home games will be streamed live via their YouTube channel. Most other teams will do the same and likely all of Louisville City's away games will be streamed live on the USL PRO YouTube channel.
