BOZICH | My weekly AP college basketball Top 25 ballot

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – I'm glad I exchanged e-mails with John Feinstein last week because this week there is nothing to fuss about, not after Duke happened to Virginia.

Kentucky is number one.

Everything else is open to debate, starting with this question:

Who's Number Two?

I considered a cast of thousands, especially Duke, Wisconsin, Virginia, Gonzaga and Arizona.

Which team did I select? Please read on.

1. Kentucky (21-0) – The SEC is about to throw the best it has to offer -- Georgia, Florida and LSU – at John Calipari's team. Will it matter?

2. Virginia (19-1) – I thought about dropping the Cavaliers. But they only had about five bad minutes Saturday. It's a loss. Everybody has one – except Kentucky.

3. Gonzaga (22-1) – Kyle Wiltjer is averaging 15.6 points and playing less than 26 minutes per game.

4. Duke (18-3) – The Blue Devils did to Virginia what Notre Dame did to Duke.

5. Wisconsin (19-2) – I considered a promotion for the Badgers, but remembered that Duke beat them in Madison.

6. Arizona (20-2) – The Wildcats have won six straight and look like the class of the Pac-12.

7. Notre Dame (20-3) – The Irish stumbled at Pittsburgh and now have a return game at Duke Saturday.

8. Louisville (18-3) – Nice week for the Cards, who face road games at Miami and Virginia this week.

9. North Carolina (17-5) – Two games against Louisville have shown how close the Tar Heels and Cardinals are.

10. Villanova (19-2) – Best of the Big East, but I'm not certain what that means.

11. Kansas (18-3) – If the Jayhawks had not lost to Kentucky by 71, I'd probably move them into the top six or seven. But they did. And I can't shake the image.

12. West Virginia (18-3) – Big test for the Mountaineers at Oklahoma Tuesday.

13. Utah (17-4) – Ten-point loss to UCLA won't help the Utes' tournament resume – and I don't care that the game was in Los Angeles.

14. Iowa State (16-4) – The Cyclones have a payback game at Kansas Monday night.

15. Northern Iowa (20-2) – Punishing win against Wichita State. Nicely done.

16. Wichita State (19-3) – The Shockers should cruise until they get another crack against Northern Iowa in their final regular-season game.

17. Maryland (18-4) – The schedule is about to turn in favor of the Terps.

18. Ohio State (17-5) – Tough road ahead for the Buckeyes – at Purdue and at Rutgers this week.

19. Baylor (16-5) – I don't really love the Bears but the computer rankings do.

20. VCU (17-4) – The worst news of the weekend was that VCU star Briante Weber won't play the rest of the season because of a knee injury.

21. Georgetown (15-6) – The Hoyas beat Villanova once. Unlikely they will do it again Saturday in Philadelphia.

22. Oklahoma (14-7) – Let the recycling begin. The Sooners enter one week, exit the next and then enter and then exit.

23. Dayton (16-4) – You could probably talk me out of voting for the Flyers. Go ahead and try.

24. SMU (18-4) – The Mustangs won't be returning to the NIT this season.

25. Texas A&M (15-5) – The Aggies have not lost since Kentucky beat them – and the Wildcats needed two overtimes.

Newcomers: Baylor, Oklahoma, SMU, Texas A&M.

Dropped Out: Stanford, Texas, Indiana, Georgia.
