LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Louisville Metro Police have arrested a man authorities say assaulted an officer and resisted police during an attempt to arrest him.

Christopher Gofourth, 42, was arrested on Saturday afternoon in the 2400 block of Saint Xavier Street, near North 24th Street, after police say he ran from authorities when they tried to arrest him.

Police initially responded to the scene because they had been informed that Gofourth had been selling drugs at a residence on Saint Xavier Street.

According to official police records, when officers arrived at the scene, they saw Gofourth and a second person in the backyard of the location. Police then identified themselves and showed their badges.

Officials say Gofourth ran from police, but was tackled in the backyard by an officer. Investigators say Gofourth refused to follow police commands to move his arms from under his body. Officers restrained Gofourth while he continued to struggle against the officers' grip.

One of the officers attempted to place handcuffs on Gofourth; however, police say he was able to grab the cuff and he used the hook end of the cuff to stab the officer in the hand. Authorities also say Gofourth used a stick and brick that was under his body to strike at the officer's hands in an effort to free himself.

The police report also states that Gofourth bit at an officer's finger during the arrest attempt.

Police searched Gofourth and found a substance suspected to be meth inside a cigarette pack. A search of the residence also uncovered a digital scale and other paraphernalia that were among Gofourth's personal belongings.

Officials say Gofourth admitted to them that he had used meth earlier in the day.

Records show that as Gofourth was being taken to Metro Corrections, he was able to escape from a police vehicle while still in handcuffs, but authorities captured him again a short distance away.

Police say Gofourth told them that had he "had his knife earlier, he would have made the detective shoot him."

Gofourth faces multiple charges including assault, trafficking in a controlled substance, resisting arrest and escape. He is being held on a $10,000 cash bond.
