BARDSTOWN, Ky. (WDRB ) -- The robber was in and out in less than a minute, but the terrifying seconds were caught on video and Bardstown Police are now searching for the man who held two convenience store workers at gunpoint.

Police say the robbery happened late Sunday night -- just before midnight -- at Thompson's Food Mart on West Stephen Foster Avenue. Surveillance video shared with WDRB News shows the suspect bursting through the doors.

The man is moving fast and is dressed head to toe in dark clothing.

"One of the clerks, as you can see on the video, she turns to greet him," said Bardstown Police Capt. Tom Roby. "She's confronted with this individual with a handgun."

The video shows the suspect follow the clerk into a back room as she tries to get away. There, he runs into a second employee.

"It's my understanding he initially was going to force them to the bathroom," Roby said. He says the suspect then made a change in plans.

You can see the man put his gun to the back of one employee. The women are then forced to get money from the cash register and safe. Bills fall to the ground as the suspect tries to grab the money.

"My perception of this video, he looked nervous and excited," Roby said. "That's the last thing you want is someone nervous and excited with a handgun in their hand."

The man was in and out in less than a minute, according to Roby.

Police believe he fled on foot and when officers arrived on the scene, they found several bundles of $10 bills in front of the store.

Authorities won't say how much money the suspect got away with but store owners say it was all small bills.

"These ladies, I'm sure their lives are going to dramatically changed from this point on," Roby said. "But thankfully no one was injured."

A store owner says the women were upset, nervous and scared. She says the man was wearing a mask and one victim said she could only see his eyes.

"All of the women that work here are really nice and we talk to them a lot, we know them. It bothers me more that they were scared and scarred by it," customer Kaitlyn Gallagher told WDRB News.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen something to give them a call. Police say if the suspect has hit one store, there's a potential he'll rob another.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Bardstown Police Department at 502-348-6811 or Nelson County Dispatch at 502-348-3211.
