LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Interstate 65 northbound has reopened between Horse Cave and Munfordville near the rest areas after to a multi-vehicle crash, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. (Update: 5:45: p.m.)

Original story 3:30 p.m.:

Officials say the shutdown will last about three hours and drivers are urged to use an alternate route.

KYTC is directing drivers to U.S. 31E  in order to bypass local traffic peak travel through towns along U.S. 31W.

The crash happened in the construction zone where crews are widening the road and working on a bridge. According to a press release, one or more of the cars ran into the wall of the bridge. Officials say the bridge has been inspected and it is still structurally sound.

Traffic is backed up beyond exit 58, according to the transportation cabinet, they say a northbound detour is setup via exit 58 eastbound U.S. 31W or U.S. 31E.

I-65 southbound is also moving slowly near Munfordville, but KYTC says there have not been any incidents reported in the southbound lanes.
