BULLITT COUNTY, Ky. (WDRB) -- Bullitt County's deputy director of emergency management died in a rollover crash west of Shepherdsville Thursday night.

Emergency management director Mike Riordan confirmed that Les Bandy was involved in the wreck on Kentucky 44 about 6 p.m.

Bandy was taken to the hospital in critical condition with a serious head injury and died early Friday morning.

Bandy was the only person in a marked, EMA Ford Expedition that left the side of the road and overturned several times, said Bullitt Co. Sheriff's Captain Mike Murdoch.

The glare of the afternoon sun may have been a factor in the crash, Murdoch said. Officers were continuing an investigation Thursday night.

Bandy was not responding to an emergency call, Riordan said.

Bandy, 58, is well-known among area emergency management and emergency medical services workers.

Supporting Heroes executive director Eric Johnson tells WDRB a police escort is planned to take Bandy's body from University Hospital to Owen Funeral Home on Dixie Highway in Pleasure Ridge Park.

The procession is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
