LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police and emergency crews went to the scene of a multi-vehicle crash at Dixie Highway and Katherine Station Road on Monday morning.

The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. near the Ohio Valley Speedway.

Traffic is being diverted to Ky. 44 while crews work to clear the scene. LMPD spokesperson Carey Klain says Dixie Highway could be closed until at least 10 a.m.

LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell said that five vehicles were involved in the crash. Authorities say one of the vehicles went over a guard rail, but the driver of that car walked away from the crash.

One person has been transported to University Hospital and is said to be in critical condition. Three other people were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

A helicopter was requested, but an ambulance had to be issued instead.

The area is expected to be closed for at least two to three more hours.
