LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Clark County Sheriff's Department in Indiana has arrested a woman after they say several underage teenagers were found drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana at her home.
It happened on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 11:59 p.m. at a home on Sunrise Circle, near the intersection of E. 10th Street and Vissing Park Road in Jeffersonville.
According to a case report from the Clark County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched to the home after they received a tip that one of the homeowners was giving marijuana and alcohol to juveniles.
As soon as they arrived, they immediately smelled marijuana, according to the report.
"I was able to see inside the front door to the residence and viewed several of what appeared to be juveniles sitting at a table with a middle aged woman," a deputy stated in the report. "The woman, later identified as Mary Jo Rhoton, appeared to be smoking a small marijuana cigarette. Also visible from the front of the residence was a yellow glass smoking device, often referred to as a 'bong,' sitting on the floor, within arm's reach of Mrs. Rhoton, as well as numerous alcoholic containers."
One of the juveniles answered the door when the deputy knocked, according to the report, and the deputy told Rhoton he wanted to speak with her outside.
Rhoton told the officer everyone inside was okay, according to the report, and that they were all friends of her 17-year-old daughter who was celebrating a birthday. She allegedly admitted that she witnessed juveniles drinking alcohol at the party -- and even giving marijuana joints to some of them. The deputy said she admitted to smoking marijuana herself, but not to drinking, and said she was not the one who provided the alcohol.
"Of the juveniles present, three were sixteen years old, and one was seventeen," the report states.
Rhoton's husband was sleeping in the rear bedroom of the home at the time. A deputy woke him up and said he also wanted to talk to him outside, at which point, Rhoton's husband told her, "This is the last time," according to the report. Mr. Rhoton then told the officer that he was unaware of the illegal activity taking place, and Mrs. Rhoton confirmed this, according to the Clark County Sheriff's Office.
The juveniles were released to their parents and guardians, who arrived at the home. Rhoton was taken to the Clark County Jail, where she was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana, misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia, felony contributing to the delinquency of a minor and felony maintaining a common nuisance.
