Classmates, community members gather to remember Anthony Smith Jr.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Dozens of people packed a Shively church Monday night to remember the life of a teenager who was shot and killed over the weekend.

Anthony Smith Jr., 18, and two of his Western High School classmates were shot on Saturday.

Smith died and the other two teens are still in critical condition.

Church leaders talked about ways to make the community safer and asked parents to teach their children not to solve problems with violence.

"We had a bloody weekend, senseless crimes, and as I talked to detectives today, most of them amounted to nothing but mere arguments. We really gotta teach our kids about self-control and that aggression and violence is not the answer -- and how to better deal with situations," Bishop William L. Harris said.

Church leaders called on city officials to help curb the violence before it results in another death.
