Shelby Co. slowly returning to normal after the snowstorm

SHELBYVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- On the day after the storm, Shelby County is slowly getting back to normal, but there is still much work to do.

"The back roads, like our subdivision, still haven't been touched, but other than that, they're pretty good," said one driver as he drove through downtown Shelbyville.

Main Street in Shelbyville is open and clear, but despite the improving conditions, many businesses were still closed downtown.

Harvest Coffee and Cafe was among those up and running.

"We opened an hour late. I was here ready to open, but nobody came in. So I just left the door closed until there was anybody actually out there walking around," said Bill Walters, who helps run the business.

It was a slow start, but Walters says business picked up even better than expected.

"Seeing that many people come in is definitely good," he said.

Paul and Kathy Partridge drove snow-packed side roads to the restaurant from Prospect.

"As long as you're slow, it's fine. You can't push it, but it was beautiful because of the snow," said Paul Partridge.

Perry's Auto sales remained open Monday through the storm, but there were zero customers. Clay Williams is hoping business improves once he digs out his inventory.

"With the sun being out, it's a little bit nicer day than yesterday, I think it will help. I think it will help a lot," he said.

But rural Shelby County will be slower to recover. Many back roads are still treacherous in spots.

"They're a lot better than they were. They've been plowed. We're starting to see some pavement, but they are still covered," said Shelby Co. Sheriff Mike Armstrong.

Sheriff Armstrong says the X-factor will be the cold. It will slow down the process of clearing those rural roads.
