LMPD investigating fatal shooting in Clifton neighborhood

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Homicide detectives are investigating after a fatal shooting in the Clifton neighborhood early Wednesday.

According to LMPD spokesman Dwight Mitchell, officers responded to a call of a shooting in the 300 block of South Ewing Avenue just before 5:30 a.m. When officers arrived, Mitchell says they found a white male that had been shot.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police had the block taped off for hours as detectives worked in the winter conditions.

"Obviously, you would think that when it's cold weather that things do slow down a bit. People are more inside but unfortunately this morning that was not the case," Mitchell said.

Mitchell says the shooting happened inside a residence.

"I was really shocked," neighbor Natalie Ridge said. "It's a very safe neighborhood. I've never heard of any breaks in or anything happen so it was just really scary."

Ridge says she lives two houses down from where the shooting happened.

"I didn't hear anything. I didn't see any cop cars. I didn't hear any cop cars so it's just really frightening," she said.

Several neighbors told WDRB they didn't hear gunshots and don't know who could be involved.

"There are a lot of rentals on our street so usually will just kind of move in and out," Ridge said.

People who live on the block say the home where the shooting happened is a rental with multiple units.

Investigators say they've been questioning a person of interest who was at the scene when they arrived but no charges have been filed.

WDRB News saw LMPD towing a car from the neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.
