LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Shively Police have arrested a man after they say he placed a child outside in the cold with no clothing while he assaulted a woman.
Police say it happened Wednesday, just after 5:30 p.m., on Elgin Way, near Cane Run Road and Ralph Avenue.
Officers say they were dispatched to the home of 37-year-old Daniel E. Hodges, where they had received a report of a domestic violence incident. When police arrived, witnesses allegedly told them that Hodges had gotten into an argument with a woman about removing her belongings from the home.
During the argument, police say Hodges took their child outside without any clothing and left the child in the bitter cold. He also allegedly punched the woman in the face.
According to the arrest report, the woman, "had to get her child from off of the front porch in the snow and bitter cold weather and place him into a vehicle because the above subject just placed the child outside."
"With the snow and weather conditions on this date, the child was at risk of serious physical injury if not removed from the cold quickly," the report stated.
Police say the woman sustained visible redness and swelling to her right eye from being punched in the face, but she declined any medical treatment. Officers say they have been dispatched to this home "numerous times" for altercations between Hodges and the woman.
Hodges was arrested and charged with third degree criminal abuse of a child under 12 and fourth degree domestic violence assault.
