Global technology company set to build large facility in southern Indiana
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A global technology company will soon break ground in Scottsburg, and the mayor says there's a reason why the company chose to bring hundreds of new jobs to southern Indiana.
Scottsburg Mayor Bill Graham says having Samtec come to town is a dream come true for the community.
"We're just so excited they're coming," he said.
Graham has been mayor of Scottsburg for 27 years and, in those years, he's seen a lot of development in the city.
One he's most proud of is the Mid-America Science Park, which could be the reason Samtec Incorporated chose Scottsburg for its next location.
"They really sought us out because of the science park," he said.
It's been in the works since August of last year.
Samtec makes makes cables and other products for electric interconnection, with locations all over the world.
The new 70,000 square foot facility will be built right next to the science park in Scottsburg.
Mayor Graham says it will bring 300 jobs, which means opportunity for the city and the region.
"It's important to our people, you know. We work hard here every day to bring the skill levels of our people up so they can have better paying jobs and that's our goal -- is to bring better paying jobs to our community so our people can have a better lifestyle and this just fits perfect," Graham said.
There's a groundbreaking scheduled for next week and officials plan to have the doors open by November of this year.
