LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man shot by Kentucky State Police troopers in St. Matthews earlier this month has been officially charged.

Kentucky State Police say they had no choice but to shoot 35-year-old Cleveland Askew, Jr. after he pulled a gun when they were trying to serve a warrant. It happened at the Stonemill Apartments on Washburn Avenue in St. Matthews around 11 p.m., Feb. 9.

Askew was hospitalized.

On Monday, WDRB News learned that Askew has now been officially charged in connection with that incident. According to an arrest warrant, he has been charged with two counts of first degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.

He is currently being housed in the Kentucky State Reformatory in La Grange, Kentucky, according to the warrant.
