Pottery painting shop leaving Westport Village in wake of lawsuits

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- After Gattiland announced its Westport Village location would close last month, another store is leaving the shopping center.

Gattiland closed its Westport Village location when the company's lease expired and a new agreement could not be reached. Now, The Artist In You will move to the former Curtain Exchange at the Vogue Center in St. Matthews.

The business spent Monday taking inventory and setting up the new location, but normal business hours will resume on Tuesday. The pottery painting shop is expected to announce an official move date in the next week.

The Artist in You filed a lawsuit in September against Camelot Acquisition which owns the shopping center, saying management fees increased by over 20 percent from 2012 to 2013. It also says the marketing fees and taxes increased over 150 percent. The business also says maintenance expenses increased by more than 120 percent. This lawsuit was dismissed in November as the two parties agreed to a settlement.

Last year, 22 total businesses -- including Wild Eggs, Ghyslain, Secret Garden and Zi Olive -- filed a separate lawsuit against Camelot Acquisition.

The business claim they're being overcharged for taxes and operating expenses. Westport Village was purchased in 2013 by a group of Chicago real estate investors under the name Camelot, and is run by a company called Inland American.

Joshua Rose, the attorney for the plaintiffs said, "We are currently conducting settlement discussions to hopefully resolve this matter for the betterment of Westport Village."

Camelot Acquisition is not commenting.
