LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Former University of Louisville basketball player Chris Jones allegedly threatened in a text message last week to “smack” a woman with whom he was having a relationship, according to records obtained by WDRB News.

Around midnight last Tuesday, a U of L student claimed she went to Jones' apartment and waited for him, but he didn't return, according to a "run report" provided by university police in response to a request under the Kentucky Open Records Act.

As she left around 3 a.m., according to the report, she acknowledged “messing up” his room. At 2 p.m., the report states, Jones allegedly texted the woman that he would “smack TF out of” her (sic).

Later that day Louisville Coach Rick Pitino suspended Jones for the Cardinals' Wednesday game in Syracuse, N.Y. Jones did not travel with the team, which lost 69-59.

Jones was re-instated and scored 17 points in Louisville's 55-53 win Saturday against Miami at the KFC Yum! Center.

The woman, who is not identified in the report, did not want Jones prosecuted but “preferred that someone talk to him about his behavior.”

The university's Dean of Students was to be notified of the incident.

Kenny Klein, a U of L spokesman, declined to comment on the report. Louisville is to play Georgia Tech in Atlanta Monday night.

Also, U of L's response to the open records request identified one additional “record” but said there was an open investigation by the school's Department of Public Safety.

Neither Pitino nor Jones has discussed the reason for the dismissal.
