LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A fatal crash that shut down part of Broadway on Monday afternoon is now a homicide investigation.

Police say a black Toyota crossed into oncoming traffic and caused the crash near 10th and Broadway. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner's office has identified him as 24-year-old Kedren Lee.

"Once they started going through the vehicle, they saw the victim did in fact have a gunshot wound," said LMPD Homicide Unit Lt. Todd Kessinger.

Officials say Lee died because he was shot, not because of the crash. That's why LMPD's Homicide Unit has taken over the case.

"We're still going through the details of what actually happened when the person was shot," Kessinger said. "He very well could have been in the car and then at that time he tried to drive himself to the hospital which led to the wreck up on Broadway."

Police believe the shooting happened on S. 16th St., near Chestnut St.

"Pulled in here and there was police lines and everything so yeah, I was kind of scared," Pamela Simpson, who lives nearby, told WDRB News.

Police won't say how many times Lee was shot or where he was hit. What led up to the shooting is also still under investigation.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call 574-LMPD.
