LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Life for families of children with cancer will be a little easier, thanks to a Catholic elementary school.

On Monday students from Our Lady of Lourdes stopped at Kosair Children's Hospital, armed with care packages.

Items like toothbrushes, hand lotion, tissues and blankets will be used by parents with children kids facing long stays at Kosair.

The school says this teaches the students about compassion, and to appreciate how fortunate they are to be healthy.

"We haven't ever had to stay here, my own children haven't ever had to stay here for a long stay," said Becca Macgilvray, a parent who volunteered to help deliver the items. "But we have seen several families be affected. So to be able to have the opportunity to come down here and do something nice and be grateful for what we have, it's very important to us to do that."

This is the second year Our Lady of Lourdes has collected care packages for Kosair families.
