Indiana police officer claims McDonald's iced tea was tainted

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An Indiana police officer claims the iced tea he drank from McDonald's was tainted.

Paul Watkins made a stop at a McDonald's in Indianapolis. He says he was given a cup to fill at the dispenser, and that he immediately felt a burning sensation in his throat after taking a sip.

According to a police report, the dispenser contained a heavy-duty de-greaser.

"He likes half-sweetened, half-unsweetened," said Jerilyn Watkins, the wife of the officer. "He fills his cup with ice, you know, he gets half unsweetened tea and he goes to fill it with sweet tea. And he thought it looked kind of dark. Took the lid off, he said, 'Didn't see anything wrong with it.' Takes a drink of it and the initial whole thing is burning."

He was taken to a local hospital.

The McDonald's owner is looking into the matter.
