Monday marks three years since deadly tornado outbreak in Indiana and Kentucky

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Three years ago today, an EF-4 tornado ripped through the heart of Henryville, Indiana.

Most of the damage has now been repaired, but the memories are still raw.

On Monday morning, it was sunny and gorgeous -- though a bit chilly -- in Henryville. Those conditions far cry from the conditions there three years ago.

A number of students, teachers and staff rode out the storm inside the school as the building was torn away around them. Miraculously, no one was hurt inside the school.

It was rebuilt in less than six months at a cost of some $50 million.

Principal Troy Albert says three years later, the memories are still vivid.

One person died in Henryville and 34 died in southern Indiana and Kentucky.
