West Louisville Walmart to go before Board of Zoning Adjustment

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Monday's meeting of the Board of Zoning Adjustment could determine whether the superstore will be built.

Three hundred jobs are at stake.

The meeting comes after the Louisville Planning Commission approved waivers that will allow Walmart to build the proposed store with a parking lot on West Broadway.

That means it would have a suburban design, while many of the other businesses on Broadway have an urban design with their storefronts on the curb.

Representatives from Walmart say the superstore is unable to make revisions to the proposal, and say the company will walk away if the city doesn't bend.

Those in favor say they are excited to see how the store could revitalize West Louisville.

Opponents say Walmart pays low wages and worry the store will hurt smaller, urban businesses.

The meeting is scheduled for one on Monday afternoon at the Old Jail Building.

There will also be a prayer vigil.
